Each bead that is used by the Maasai has meaning behind it. In this coiled bracelet, the black beads symbolize unity and solidarity, which also represents the struggle the Maasai people endure which ultimately brings them together as people. The white beads on the other hand represent represents purity and health, the latter being associated with cow’s milk, which provides nourishment. Lastly, the green beads symbolize health and well-being in the Maasai culture as it represents the land and grass which feeds the cattle who sustain the Maasai communities.
