Beautiful, beaded Maasai headband/choker handcrafted in Kenya by talented Maasai women. They were handmade by threading and sewing Maasai beads to a leather-bound headband. The hairband is made a plastic base and decorated beautifully with black, blue, and brown Maasai beads with a leather inner lining.
In the Maasai culture, beaded jewellery such as this headband indicate age and social status, and can mark important events (ex. Engagement, wedding, etc.)
Each bead that is used by the Maasai has meaning behind it. In this headband, blue symbolizes sustenance, energy, and the bright blue sky which provides water for the people and their cattle. On the other hand, the black beads symbolizes unity and solidarity, which also represents the struggle the Maasai people endure which ultimately brings them together as people.
Note: This design of headband is available in various colour choices. Due to the handmade nature of each piece, no two are exactly alike.
Final product may not be as shown…these are individually handcrafted and selection of beads, designs, etc. will have the same high-quality artisanship but may not be exactly as depicted in the photographs.
